While Cyberpunk 2077’s first DLC will not arrive until 2023, more than two years after the release of the base game, we now have a very clear picture of what it’s going to be like, thanks to an incredibly unfortunate leak on the part of CDPR.

Somehow, some way, more or less the entire working script of Cyberpunk 2077’s first DLC was uploaded into the files of the game in a recent patch, and can be viewed which reveals major chunks of the story, even its endings.

I will go through the highlights just so we have some idea what it’s about, but without spoiling specifically big moment or its ending:

  • As many suspected, the DLC takes place in the underutilized Pacifica region of the game.
  • A new part of Pacifica, the Combat Zone, will be opened up for players to explore.
  • Players will also be able to go inside the Sports Dome, which can be seen but not entered in the base game.
  • This is indeed a V story, but the script does not have much dialogue from Johnny Silverhand, implying maybe Keanu could not record much more.
  • The main character is instead someone named Songbird, and the main story is seven missions long, including featuring new gigs from fixers.
  • The DLC takes place before the point of no return in the original game, and completing it can trigger new dialogue in the actual conclusion.

There are some other files in there that indicate the next DLC could be in the spacebound Crystal Palace, but CDPR lately has strongly indicated that Cyberpunk 2077 is likely only getting the one DLC as they move on to other projects like the next Witcher game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is approaching 20 million sales, so it certainly shouldn’t seem like two DLCs are out the question, but the timeline here is the problem. By the time this first DLC arrives, it will be over two years since the release of the game (The Witcher 3 got both of its massive DLCs in a year). So a second would push that out into late 2023 or 2024, and again, these are all resources that CDPR probably wants working on either The Witcher 4 in Unreal Engine 5, or planning a true Cyberpunk sequel rather than continuing to develop the old game indefinitely.

All we know officially from CDPR is that marketing for the Cyberpunk DLC will being in the second half of this year ahead of its 2023 release, but perhaps this leak may speed that up now, we’ll have to see.
