It’s just been revealed that Sarah Palin – who is now running for Congress – reportedly earned more from making videos on Cameo last year than she would have made in Congress. Woah! According to reports, the 58-year-old former Alaska Republican governor revealed in a new financial disclosure form that she made over $211,000 from the online service whereby celebs can send personalized video messages to members of the public for a fee, which is apparently over $37,500 more than the annual salary of a House member.
Palin reportedly charged almost $200 per video message, but it’s currently unknown whether she would (or whether she would even be allowed to) continue offering her services on Cameo if she got elected to Congress. According to Business Insider, Members of Congress are technically limited to $29,595 in outside income per year, although there are reportedly loopholes to allow them to earn more through investment accounts, real estate holdings, and book deals. Very interesting!
That's not the only piece of information we learned about the former Republican VP candidate's finances either, as it was also revealed that she earned $70,000 in 2021 from her marketing company Pie Spy LLC, over $40,000 in speaking fees, and $10,000 for her participation in the Club for Growth Save America bus tour. Palin has also listed dividends from various different investment and retirement accounts, which might make some people wonder why she is considering making a political return if life away from politics is far more lucrative.
Palin is competing against 47 other candidates in a June 11th special election to fill Alaska's At-Large House seat following the death of Rep. Don Young, who was the longest-serving member of the House. The four highest performing candidates will then advance to an August special general election, and the winner will be picked under ranked-choice voting.
