Jajuan Darvez West, 22, was ordered to spend 275 months to 80 years in prison for the July 19, 2021 death of Cireara Sutton 29. In an agreement with the prosecution, West pleaded no contest to second degree murder — amended from a charge of first degree murder.

Sutton was fatally shot at the Rodeway Inn, 32703 Stephenson Highway, where she and West had reportedly been living together for a few weeks.

According to Madison Heights police,  the two had reportedly been arguing about money when West began firing a Glock handgun. West reportedly told police he got angry and fired a couple shots to scare Sutton. Gunfire hit her five times in the torso, police said.

After the shooting, police found West hiding behind a Dumpster at a nearby gas station.

At sentencing, West was also given a mandatory two-year consecutive sentence for possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He pleaded no contest to that charge, as well.

Judge Yasmine Poles sentenced West under a Cobb’s Agreement.
