HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police are investigating a shooting after a man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

They say the victim, a 37-year-old man from Michigan, claims to have been shot in the area of 21st Street and 10th Avenue.

“There’s quite a bit of gunfire in this area, because there’s quite a bit of what’s obvious to me drug traffic in houses around here. I don’t see it happening but you know if it looks like a duck you know what it is,” said Pastor Samuel Moore who lives along 10th Avenue.

He was dropped off at the hospital around 4:30 Friday morning.

Police say he has what appears to be a single gunshot wound to his right thigh, which does not appear to be life-threatening.

“It’s concerning to hear gunshots, because we don’t know where they are coming from. We don’t know where they are going to,” Moore said.

Moore says he loves his neighborhood, but to make it safer, he wants the community to be more involved and increase awareness.

“This community seems to me very lackadaisical, apathetic until something happens instead of getting ahead of it, so we need to be proactive,” Moore said. “We need to be vigilant we need to be reporting what’s going on we need to have surveillance.”

No suspect information is available, but police say they do not believe the public is in any danger.

The name of the shooting victim isn’t being released.
