A deal which would see Brazilian winger Marquinhos make the switch from Sao Paulo to Arsenal looked all but complete until a recent development concerning Wolves has thrown the move into jeopardy. According to the Daily Mail, the Midlands club believe the youngster has already signed a pre-contract agreement with them, rendering him unavailable for purchase.
The Sao Paulo man was due to undertake his medical at Arsenal imminently. Whether these developments regarding Wolves will impact these plans is unclear. If the issues are able to be brushed aside, Arsenal will sign their man for £3 million.
It is always difficult to judge where a youngster from Brazil is in terms of development and ability. On the one hand, some settle into European football seamlessly, as seen in the case of Gabriel Martinelli who joined Arsenal in 2019. Others need more time, and sometimes a loan move, before they’re ready to play for a big club.

Marquinhos’ role at Arsenal would in all likelihood involve understudying the Gunners’ star man Bukayo Saka. The Englishman played every game of the season for Arsenal over the course of the 2021/22 campaign so decreasing the burden placed upon his shoulders has clearly been identified as an important task for Mikel Arteta this summer.
