Number of deaths rises to 4 overnight, with 2 more possibly missing, after Pa. house explosion

Update: What the neighborhood looked like after home explosion

Four people are dead and at least two more may be missing after a house exploded in Pottstown Thursday evening, according to officials.

ABC News reported that Pottstown Borough Manager Justin Keller confirmed the numbers during a press conference Thursday. Two more people have been hospitalized, but the status of their well-being was not given.

The numbers increased throughout the night — originally two deaths were reported — after the 8 p.m. explosion along North Washington Street.

Authorities did not know Thursday what caused the explosion.

A resident of the neighborhood, Christian Gonzalez, told ABC he initially thought the explosion was thunder.

“I really thought it was really loud thunder just nearby, but it shook the area,” he said.

The Pottstown School District has canceled its Friday classes.
