Letter to the editor: Rosengarten

Even though I’m not eligible to vote for City Council, it means a great deal to me when excellent leaders run for this office. According to unitedstateszipcodes.org, 14,799 people live within the 95437-zip code, 6,983 within the city limits, and 7,816 outside. I live outside the city limits but own a business and commercial property in Fort Bragg proper.

Fort Bragg is the location of most jobs on the Coast, the largest low-income housing resource, and home to Mendocino County’s coast-based offices, including social services, court, and library. Sheriff’s station, and California Highway Patrol. In addition, Fort Bragg is the location of our hospital, Fort Bragg Unified School District (of which I was a board member for 12 years), and Mendocino Coast Recreation and Parks District. Finally, Mendocino College’s Coast campus is within Fort Bragg’s city limits.

Fort Bragg’s general and long-range plans, sales taxes, permits and fees, zoning, water, energy sources and Wi-Fi, finance, housing resources, land use and development codes, cannabis, and other regulations, those selected as planning commissioners, the City’s relationship with Noyo Headlands, and all nearby parks impact all of us.

Only those registered to vote within the city limits can vote for City Council. In the last election, 2,489 cast their votes, which affected almost 15,000 people, plus the other zip codes from Westport to Gualala.

If you live within the city limits and are eligible to run, do so, and think about the rest of us.
