The KBI is now investigating the hour standoff in west Wichita that ended in the fatal shooting of the suspect, identified as Gregorio Banuelos, 39.  Two police officers and two Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputies are on paid administrate leave pending the outcome.

Police Captain Jason Stevens says after the SWAT officers made multiple attempts to talk the suspect out of the home, the officers entered through the basement where a police dog had indicated the suspect’s location.

"Mr. Banuelos emerged into view, he was clearly holding a gun. He pointed that gun at the officers, and they responded in self-defense by multiple shots with both a firearm and a less than lethal device," Stevens said.

That's when the suspect began shooting at the officers, and they returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
