A world of wonder in Cazadero

'Tis a glorious late Spring morning on our ridge above Austin Creek, between the great pacific and the Russian River! Very watery indeed.

Speaking of which, the late and very welcome rains were splendid, but we are now at the onset of extreme fire danger. The magnificent redwoods surrounding my airy cyber-hut are greatly benefited of course by the fog, but the rest of the trees and plants are not so lucky! So we must, as stewards of of our local lands and ultimately of the entire planet, learn how to live and yes, thrive, using less of this precious and finite resource.

Please do vote on or before the June 7 Primary Election. I would never tell you what or who to vote for, but simply encourage you to participate in the process.

I was horrified to hear of last year's haul of 100s of pounds of trash-BOO!

We are fortune to live in a usually peaceful community Folks help each other- as it should be. Racism and bigotry are evil and soul-destroying. We are all here together and need the 'glue' of fellowship.

A few years back I was involved with the Sonoma County Human Rights Commission's 'Hate Crime Prevention Network' project. The group formed, spear-headed by Bob Young of Cafe' Bazaar and assisted by Sheriff Dave Anderson, who all participated in making sure that business owners in Guerneville and later in Monte Rio knew what to do when faced with hate incidents. Almost 100% of Guerneville and all of Monte Rio businesses signed up for (free) training. We were the pioneers in this type of direct action in preventing and stopping hate spech and hate crimes. You will see our red 'HATE STOPS HERE' decals which were designed by late Guerneville artist John DeSalvio. I am very proud of my time as chair of the West County Community Action Committee and know that we made a difference to the benefit of the community and visitors. We met regularly with groups forming from Cloverdale to Petaluma, and a Sonoma State and the SRJC.
