Armed robbery suspect arrested after breaking down on the side of I-20

$14,000 worth of stolen jewelry recovered

Three people are in custody following an armed robbery at Carter's Jewelry Store in Vicksburg Thursday morning. Police received a report of an armed robbery at the jewelry store around 10:17 a.m. Thursday morning. Officials say while a woman was trying to flee the store with over $14,000 of stolen jewelry, she struck a curb damaging the car's tires. At approximately 11:50 a.m. a Highway Patrol trooper saw two vehicles parked on the shoulder of Interstate 20 in Hinds County; one of which matched the description of the armed robbery suspect. Authorities say as police approached the three individuals near the parked vehicles, a male fled on foot, crossing the interstate and began climbing a fence when a trooper placed him in custody. The two females were arrested without incident. The man, identified as Richard T. Kyles, 36, of Jackson was transported to the Hinds County Sheriff's Department where he was charged with resisting arrest, receiving stolen property and possessing a controlled substance. The armed robbery suspect and the second female were taken to the Vicksburg Police Department. This incident is currently under investigation by Vicksburg Police, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
