A home revitalization project in the city's Susan B. Anthony neighborhood was completed on Thursday.
6 Madison Street has sat vacant since at least 1996, when it was purchased by the city in a tax-foreclosure sale — but thanks to funds secured by the Greater Rochester Land Bank, the house has been restored to its former glory.
After securing $100,000 from the N.Y. Attorney General’s Land Bank Community Revitalization Initiative, the Land Bank sold the house to Rochester real estate developer Miguel Rosario of Rosario Home Improvements, who used the funding to secure the property's first certificate of occupancy in more than two decades.
Dawn Noto, President of the Susan B. Anthony Neighborhood said she can't believe the change she's seen in the neighborhood over the past twenty years.
"I've been here 19 years and we've had 12 vacant homes on two streets. We don't have any now," said Noto. "Just to see something so positive in our community to complete a street, we're thrilled, just couldn't be more excited."
The two-unit property will be available for tenants to rent at a rate that does not exceed 30 percent of their income.
