UPD: Suspects arrested in connection with shooting on Ford Street in Ukiah

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting on Ford Street Tuesday night, the Ukiah Police Department reported.

According to the UPD, multiple callers reported around 10 p.m. May 24 hearing gunshots in the 200 block of Ford Street, and some of the callers described vehicles possibly associated with the shooting.

During their initial investigation, officers “confirmed that a pick-up truck passed by the area of the 200 block of Ford Street, and the occupants had a brief interaction with a pedestrian. The truck drove eastbound, turned around and then drove back toward the pedestrian. As the truck turned onto Joseph Street, multiple gunshots originated from the truck. These gunshots struck several vehicles and buildings in the area, but no one was injured. It appears a specific person was the target and this was not a random shooting.”

As the investigation continued Wednesday, the UPD reports that “the shooter was identified as Bryan M. Sanchez, 20, who was currently on felony probation for a prior violation of burglary, and the driver of the pick-up was identified as a 17-year-old male from Ukiah, with the vehicle being connected to him.”

The UPD also notes that “there were numerous prior unreported incidents of harassing behavior between the driver and the adult female victim. It is still not clear what prompted the escalation and the ensuing shooting incident.”

At approximately 4 p.m. May 25, the UPD reports that detectives located Sanchez near Walmart on Airport Park Boulevard, and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and violating his probation. He was booked into Mendocino County Jail on a no-bail hold.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. May 25, the male juvenile suspect reportedly turned himself in at UPD headquarters, then was booked into Mendocino County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of conspiracy and of being an accessory to a felony.

The UPD reports that its investigation “is ongoing, (and) the vehicle driven at the time of the shooting, as well as the firearm used, are still outstanding.” Anyone with information regarding the incident and/or the location of the vehicle is urged to contact UPD detectives via the non-emergency telephone number: 707-463-6262.
