Even after the Kansas City Chiefs elected to trade Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still quite confident in the team’s wide receiver unit heading into the upcoming season.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Mahomes took some time to offer his stamp of approval to the Chiefs’ receiver corps.

“What you're going to see with this offense is it's going to be everybody,” Mahomes said.

“The whole receiving room is gonna have big days, and that's something that we can use to our advantage.”

The Chiefs have seen plenty of turnaround at the wide receiver position ever since their Super Bowl 54-winning season. Among the four wideouts who logged at least 40 targets over the 2019 campaign, only Mecole Hardman is still with the team. As mentioned, Hill is now with the Dolphins, while both Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson left the team via free agency.

In response, the Chiefs front office opted to bolster the position by hauling in both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling as free agent signings earlier this year.

The Chiefs are set to have competition in the coming months for just which talents will fill out the rest of their wide receiver depth chart for the 2022 season. Among those who will earn a shot to receive crucial snaps over the upcoming campaign is former Clemson Tigers wideout Justyn Ross. The versatile speedster went undrafted in last month’s 2022 NFL Draft, but he then decided to sign on with Kansas City as a free agent.

With what Mahomes has seen so far from Ross in OTAs, he views much potential in the speedy wideout.

“The way he catches the football out of the air, there’s no drops,” Mahomes said. “You see those flashes of how talented he can be, the more and more reps he gets I can’t imagine how good he’ll be, just because of how talented he is.”

In the big picture, several wideouts on the Chiefs roster sure will need to step up in the coming season with Hill now no longer on the team.
