Darryl Sutter Calls Out His Group: 'Maybe Edmonton's Just a Little Bit Better'

The Calgary Flames trail the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in their best-of-seven series, and frankly they haven't looked like themselves at any point in the series. Edmonton has outscored, out chanced, out maneuvered Calgary every step of the way, or so it seems. Darryl Sutter, Head Coach of the Calgary Flames, with his team on the brink of elimination had an interesting take in his morning presser. It's not unusual for coaches to use these press conferences to send messages to their teams through the media. It's tough to say that it's exactly what Sutter is aiming to do. However, if it was his goal it's a good way to fire up your locker room:

'Maybe our guys are doing all they can.' Sure sounds to me like he's indirectly gut-checking his players ahead of Game 5.

However, there is truth in his words. Edmonton does indeed deserve credit for what they've been able to achieve in this series so far. While the job isn't done, they certainly deserve to be where they are. Sutter, on the other hand, isn't one to just roll over & accept defeat. Which is what makes me think he's using his media avail to send a message to his locker room.

The Flames will need to win three straight over an Oilers group that is purring on all cylinders right now. That's no small task, but Calgary had lots of success vs. Edmonton during the regular season, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that they get it done. But the odds are not in their favor.
