Man wanted in North Carolina in wife’s death arrested in Biloxi

A man suspected of killing his wife in North Carolina was arrested in Biloxi early this morning.

Biloxi Police arrested Lawrence Guttierrez, 51, in the death of his wife, Tavara Guttierrez. He is in the Harrison County jail awaiting extradition to Greenville, North Carolina. He is charged with murder.

The 44-year-old travel nurse was found dead in his condominium after police were contacted Tuesday afternoon. Co-workers reported that Tavara Guttierrez had not shown up for work for several days and were concerned.

Neighbors told news outlets in Greenville, N.C., that the couple had a history of domestic disputes. Police did not say how Tavara Guttierrez died.

Greenville Police alerted Biloxi that Lawrence Guttierrez could be headed to the Coast, where he was originally from. His social media account shows he was a handyman living in D’Iberville. And a list of contractors licensed to do business in Biloxi as of September 19, 2021, has him listed as a remodeler doing business as LG Handyman Services. Police also said his mother lives in Diamondhead.

Biloxi Police say that about 2 a.m., firefighters at the station on Veterans Avenue alerted officers to a suspicious vehicle outside the fire house. It was parked with the engine off and the lights off but someone was sounding the horn. When police arrived, Guttierrez was passed out behind the wheel.

When police ran a check on the tag, they learned Guttierrez was wanted in Greenville.
