Student-athletes participate in Bulldog Games

This year’s Lehigh County Special Olympics was canceled, and seemingly all was lost.

Not so in the Northern Lehigh School District, which carried on with its own version of the Special Olympics.

Amid sunny skies, a total of 48 student athletes participated in the Bulldog Games held Wednesday at Bulldog Stadium.

Michele Dotta, director of special education, said they ranged in age from kindergarten to 21 years old.

Dotta said 50 high school volunteers assisted throughout the day.

“It’s to celebrate them,” Dotta said. “They’re having a ball.”

Dotta said the student-athletes were able to participate in a bean bag toss, long jump, softball throw, and 50-meter dash.

Senor Ryan Dries took a break from the softball throw to share his thoughts on the event.

Dries said that while he participated in all four events, the 50-meter dash was his favorite.

“It’s fun to get out, do stuff,” Dries said. “It’s fun doing something different.”
