A group of students walked out of Grant High School calling for gun control legislation and showing solidarity with other students across the country.
This comes after 19 students and two teachers were killed in an elementary school in Texas.
The group is calling for stricter background checks when purchasing guns.
“Every time there’s a threat or anything like that at school there are kids who don’t show up because kids are in fear,” said Junior Kian Doughty “We’re training for shooters and we’re not actually stopping these events from happening.”
“It just feels like people will always value their second amendment rights over our lives,” Junio Talia Wexler said.
The group said they are also raising awareness about IP 17 and IP 18. The two measures would ban the sale of high-capacity magazines, assault rifle style weapons, and require training for proper gun use.
