Drunken Perry man allegedly assaults mother of child

John Taylor Roberts, 23, of Perry was arrested Wednesday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

A Perry man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly drunkenly assaulting the mother of his child and putting her in fear for the child’s safety.

John Taylor Roberts, 23, of 1702 Otley Ave., Perry, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Otley Avenue, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of Roberts “being belligerently drunk and making” a Perry woman “feel unsafe as she had their 5 month old baby girl in the home,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that Roberts allegedly “dragged her by both arms around the
house and would not let her fall asleep,” according to court records.

“Marks were observed on both of” the victim’s arms, according to court records.

Roberts is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 6 in Dallas County District Court.

Roberts was arrested in Perry May 6 on a charge of public intoxication. The case is pending is Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of disorderly conduct-fighting or violent behavior in March 2022 in Greene County District Court. He was convicted of disorderly conduct-fighting or violent behavior and public intoxication in March 2020 in Cass County District Court. He was convicted of carrying weapons in 2018 in Greene County District Court.
