Deacon James Henry Wilson, son of the late Ernest and Bertha Kilgore Wilson, was born in Petty, Texas, on June 18, 1938. In 1952, at the age of 14, James moved from Petty to Breckenridge, Texas. While in Breckenridge, James attended Booker T. Washington and graduated in 1956. He then attended Paris Junior College for one semester and later attended Texas College in Tyler, Texas.

James joined the United States Air Force and served from June 12, 1961, until his honorable discharge on June 12, 1965. During his time in the military, James earned the ranking of Airman First Class. After leaving the military, James worked for the Stephens County Courthouse, a career he maintained for 33 years before retiring.

On January 30, 1970, James wed Barbara McDole Wilson of Taylor, Arkansas, in holy matrimony. At the time of his passing, the couple had been married for 52 years. James then united with the Bethel Baptist Church on December 31, 2003, under the leadership of Pastor C.F. Holliman. James served as a trustee for the church, and on June 6, 2010, he was ordained as a deacon. Additionally, James served as the Treasurer of Bethel Baptist and was very active as the secretary of the brotherhood. James could always be found helping others and assisting with the upkeep of the church. He also attended the progressive West Texas Baptist Association’s district church meetings as a representative of Bethel Baptist Church. James was a quiet man and a faithful church member until his health began to fail.

James is survived by his loving wife of over five decades, Barbara; along with his cousins: Geral Kilgore (Mesquite, Texas), Monica and Johnny Booth (Dallas, Texas), James Jackson (Dallas, Texas), Kathy Glenn (North Carolina), Michael Jackson (Hawaii), Stormye Jackson (Austin, Texas), Temprese and Levar Guidry (Mesquite, Texas), Taylor and Phillip Johnson (Garland, Texas), Tyler Glenn (Dallas, Texas), and Kendall Jackson (North Carolina).
