A graduate stands slights turned to the left. She has her hands clasped in front of her and is wearing a gold cord and a medal on a black and gold ribbon over her gown.

Jessica Lowery, a 38-year-old from Lumberton, graduated May 13, 2022 with an Associate in Applied Science in Surgical Technology. Lowery used FTCC’s online option to complete her associate degree while working full time.

“I’m currently a CST, a certified surgical technologist, at UNC Health Southeastern. I’ve been one since 2015. I did the bridge program where I could complete my last year of coursework online to get my associate degree.

“I love healthcare and being able to help people. It’s not for everybody, but if it’s for you, you know it.

“Mr. Terry Herring is over the Surgical Technology program, and he brings his Surgical Tech students to UNC Health Southeastern. He encouraged us to come and complete our associate’s.

“It’s very challenging — working full time, going to school full time, being a full time mother. Being able to do everything online is great. It works.”
