This season the Hershey Trojans softball team went 8-10. Pre-pandemic, they had struggled at times to have a full team and find success.

This season’s captains were Julia Zakovitch, Adriana Malena, and Anna Coulter. Head Coach John Zitko said via email, “They were amazing leaders, which, with so many young players, was essential to our success this season.”

Zitko said Zakovitch had her best year pitching, bringing her ERA down to a personal best. Zakovitch also had her highest hitting average of her career. Additionally, senior Anna Coulter set a team record for batting average this season.

The team’s first win from the season was a 5-3 victory away against Bishop McDevitt on April 20th. The win was a big confidence booster for the girls, said Zitko.

Later in the season the team came within one run of beating the powerhouses Lower Dauphin & Mechanicsburg, the 1st & 2nd place teams in the MidPenn Division. Zitko said by the end of the season, Hershey was consistently winning games.

“We have a large, talented group of 9th graders in the program,” said Zitko, “I think they are going to be awesome in the coming years!”
