Jinkx Monsoon explains why she blocked Shea Couleé on Drag Race All Stars 7: 'I was trying to think clairvoyantly'

RuPaul's Drag Race icon Jinkx Monsoon is both a conduit between realms (one viewing of her Judy Garland Snatch Game proves she's channeling spirits from beyond) and a clairvoyant of the competition, as she tells EW she made the shocking decision to block her All Stars 7 sister Shea Couleé from getting a Legendary Legend Star after she took a long look into the future of the contest.

"I'd just decided that I was going to block someone who already had a star. I was just trying to think strategically, like, if someone were to win a second challenge, then they'd have two stars already. I felt like I needed to slow down someone who already had a star," Jinkx tells EW in the latest episode (below) of EW's BINGE podcast, adapted from our new weekly Quick Drag Twitter Spaces recaps airing live Mondays at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT. "At that point in the competition, I was trying to think clairvoyantly," she says.

Jinkx's psychic powers apparently told her that the early appearance of Snatch Game on episode 2 signaled the arrival of "another complex challenge around the corner" for the eight returning winners vying to become the first queen to win Drag Race twice on AS7.

"My prediction was that it might be a design challenge or maybe even a ball, and I remember Shea being incredible at creating looks," she says of the season 9 finalist and All Stars 5 winner. "You can already see in just two episodes how immaculate Shea is at creating and presenting looks. My only thought was, if it's a design challenge, Shea is one of the top contenders for design challenges in the room, and she already has a star. If I block someone else who is also a top contender as a designer, it might block them from having a star, but, I wanted to block someone from having two stars."

Jinkx of course references the new season's altered format, which features no eliminations and a point-based scoring system. The top four queens of the season advance to the finale if they have more stars than the other half of the cast, with each queen winning one Legendary Legend Star if the judges place her in the top two of the week at the end of each challenge. After the top two lip-sync, the winner gets the ability to block one of her sisters from winning a star the next week — even if she does well in the challenge.

Perhaps more valuable than the Legendary Legend Star that Jinkx now has to her credit? An emotional, confidence-boosting voice message of perseverance from Dave, who makes a surprise appearance on the podcast to wish Jinkx well. The Navy veteran first met Jinkx as her makeover subject on Drag Race season 5. On the 2013 episode, Dave revealed that he once met Judy Garland — who Jinkx ended up portraying on the AS7 Snatch Game celebrity impersonation challenge — and said he felt that he played a role in her death.

During Snatch Game, Jinkx-as-Judy fronted a headline-making moment as she turned to the camera and told Dave he was "forgiven" and "not responsible" for Garland's passing 1969 — which Dave told EW involved him meeting the actress in 1968 at a bar in Boston before he says he provided her with Seconal pills before her comeback shows in London.

"It was something floating around in my mind, and I think I decided if it felt right, I was going to do it, and in that moment, it felt right," Jinkx explains of deciding to address Dave during the challenge. "I think about that moment a lot, when Dave said he's worried he killed Judy Garland, because I dwell on things, and I can only imagine how much dwelling Dave has done in his life over this supposed contribution to Judy Garland's untimely passing. I thought if there was any way I could alleviate stress in Dave's life, I could do it, because Dave is so incredibly sweet to work with, he's been such a sweetheart since our time together on season 5."
