Area 1A Athletes Set to Compete at IHSA Boys State Track Meet Today

Several area 1A athletes will compete in the IHSA 1A Boys State Track Meet today at Eastern Illinois University. Today’s events will include the preliminary rounds of field and running events with athletes trying to earn their way into Saturday’s Finals.

Vandalia High School will be represented by one athlete as junior Christian Duplayee will compete in the Pole Vault at 11am. Patoka-South Central will also be represented by one athlete with senior London Hails competing in the Long Jump at 10am.

Altamont High School will be represented by a group of athletes led by Senior Xander Moschenrose competing in four events including the 100m Dash (12:21pm) and the 200m Dash (2:14pm). Moschenrose is also a member of two relays along with Noah Klimpel, Devon Sloan and Logan Duncan as the boys will compete in both the 4×100 (11:39am) and 4×200 (12:59pm) relays. Eric Kollman will compete in the Discus at 1:10pm on Thursday and Ben Roedl competes in the High Jump at 10am.

The area competitors to really watch this weekend will be CHBC’s senior duo Jadon Robertson and Daniel Lucas. Robertson is the reigning champion in the High Jump and the 110m Hurdles and is the favorite to win the 300m Hurdles and place well in the Long Jump. Lucas is the reigning Shot Put Champion and is also favored to place very high in the Discus event where he is ranked in the top three. Last year, Robertson and Lucas teamed up to accumulate enough points to tie for 3rd Place in the team standings and could make a run for the 1A Team title on Saturday with strong performances in Thursday’s preliminary and Saturday’s Finals round.
