NORTH PLATTE – After posting a third place day one score of 347 on Tuesday, the Pender boys golf team remained third to close out the Class D Championships.

From the Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte, the 2022 NSAA Boys State Golf Championships were held for a second straight day in North Platte.

Pender finished third with rounds of 347/341 (just seven shots out of first), Wausa placed 10th (751) and Stanton tied for 13th (772).

Pender was led by Quinton Heineman with rounds of 85/81 (T-8th), Wausa was led by Michael Vanness with rounds of 86/88 (T-26th) while Stanton’s Parker Krusemark (90/95) and Owen Vogel (89/96) both tied for 52nd.

Creighton’s Gage Burns shot an 85/76 to place fifth while GACC’s Livia Hunke finished with rounds of 86/85 (T-19th) and junior Ryan Hrbek shot a 90/87 (T-37th).

On Tuesday, North Platte St. Patrick’s had a comfortable 23 shot lead on second place Overton after day one. But, Overton fired a second round 337, which was 26 shots better than North Platte St. Patrick’s as Overton went onto capture the Class D team title with a 681. North Platte St. Patrick’s was three shots back at 684.

Individually, Teegan Sonneman from North Platte St. Patrick’s was crowned champion with rounds of 69/80 to finish with a 149 among the 93 golfers with one golfer who did not finish on Tuesday. Teammate Conner Hasenauer was two shots back at 151 (73/78).
