A 33-year-old Monroe County man is charged with stealing an ambulance Tuesday afternoon outside Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono in East Stroudsburg, authorities say.
Stroud Area Regional police officers were called at 5:04 p.m. and spoke with Bushkill EMS personnel who said they brought a patient into the emergency room and when they headed back to the ambulance, it was gone, Chief Jennifer Lyon said in a news release.
Hospital security footage showed the man get into the ambulance and drive off, Lyon said.
The information was sent to area law enforcement agencies, and Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton conducted a traffic stop in the area of Herrity and Interchange roads in Franklin Township, Carbon County, and the man was arrested Lyon said.
The man was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Judge Brian Germano on charges of theft (a felony), receiving stolen property (a felony) and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, court papers say. He was housed in Monroe County’s prison in lieu of $5,000 bail pending a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled 11 a.m. May 31, court records say.
Court papers did not list an attorney for the man.
