Clovis Police said they got calls about a reckless driver who was driving in circles on Hwy. 168 at Shepherd Ave. around 8:00 p.m. Thursday. They said they tried to pull the driver over, but he refused to stop.
A chase began, and police said he drove east at no more than about 40 MPH. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol (CHP) joined the chase, and a law enforcement helicopter was also called in.
Clovis Police said an officer pursuit intervention technique (PIT) to stop the driver on Hwy. 168 near Millerton Rd. after about an hour. Once stopped, police said the driver refused to get out of his car.
Eventually, law enforcement at the scene used 'non-lethal' weapons to bust out the windows, and a police dog was sent into the car. Deputies said the driver was bit, but he still wouldn't get out of the sedan. The man was eventually pulled out of the car by officers at the scene.
The driver was taken to a hospital to get his dog bite checked out. Once released, Clovis Police said he would face several charges, including reckless driving.
