'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Beta Details Revealed, Here's When You Can Play

Late last month, it was officially announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is on its way, to the surprise of literally no one. Prior to the actual confirmation, there’d been so many leaks that you might as well have just called it a flood - we all knew that it was coming, we just didn’t know when.

Things are really heating up now, though, because this week, we got our first look at the game that wasn’t just a logo teaser (even though this is just a cinematic thing too, to be fair), but more importantly, a release date - mark your calendars for 28 October. However, according to a new report from Charlie INTEL, players may be able to get their hands on the game much sooner than that.

Reportedly, dataminers have uncovered in CoD: Vanguard’s files that an open beta for MW2 is going to be happening prior to release. It seems that players will be able to get access to this if they preorder the game, regardless of the edition they buy (the details of these different editions were also listed - more on that later).

Interestingly, assuming the leak is true, it also confirms that PS4 and PS5 users will be given access to the open beta first, despite the fact that Microsoft are set to own the entire franchise when their acquisition of Activision goes through. So, good news for the PlayStation lot.

Back to those different editions then, apparently, players will be able to choose from the Standard Edition, the Cross-Gen Bundle, or Vault Edition. Other than access to the open beta (which, again, all versions offer) preordering Standard will give you the game and some currently unannounced items, and Cross-Gen is the same, except you’ll be given the cross-gen version of the game, obviously. Vault Edition is clearly the more exciting (and expensive) of the bunch - it includes a bunch of extras, including a Battle Pass for one season, 12 operator skins, 10 weapon blueprints, Ghost, Soap, Price and Farah operators, and more.

As of now, this information isn’t officially confirmed, so do take it with a pinch of salt. It unfortunately doesn’t offer an actual release date for the beta, either, so we’ll have to stay tuned to see what Activision say.
