High School Baseball: Rain pushes back handful of games until Thursday
Opening night of the boys high school baseball playoffs was overshadowed by lightning and rain.
Games across the South Bend area, which were scheduled to play Wednesday night started before being called off to finish Thursday, like South Bend Clay and New Prairie. While others, like Glenn and Plymouth, got their games finished in time, before the thunderstorms began.
Here is a look at Wednesday's IHSAA baseball action.
4A Plymouth Sectional
Plymouth 7, South Bend Riley, 1
With its win Plymouth advances to Saturday's sectional semifinal against the winner of Michigan City and South Bend Adams.
Michigan City vs. South Bend Adams
Michigan City and South Bend Adams was postponed to Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner will play Plymouth on Saturday (11 a.m.) in the sectional semifinals.
3A South Bend Clay Sectional
South Bend Clay vs. New Prairie
South Bend Clay and New Prairie's sectional game was suspended in the fourth inning (score unknown) and will resume Thursday at 6 p.m. The winner will play South Bend Washington Saturday in the sectional semifinals. Semifinals will begin at 11 a.m.
3A Kankakee Valley Sectional
Glenn 11, Knox 0
Brycen Hannah pitched a one-hit shutout while striking out 11 and the Falcons scored seven runs in the first inning to advance to the sectional semifinals. Glenn will play the winner of River Forest and Culver Academies on Saturday at 10 a.m.
2A Westview Sectional
Fairfield 10, Prairie Heights 0
Alec Hershberger threw a 10-strikeout no-hitter in Fairfield's sectional shutout win over Prairie Heights. The Falcons will play the winner of LaVille and Central Noble in Saturday's sectional semifinal.
LaVille vs. Central Noble
LaVille and Central Noble was postponed to Thursday (time TBD). The winner will play Fairfield in Saturday's sectional semifinals.
