Blues force Game 6 with comeback win in overtime against Avalanche
The St. Louis Blues dodged elimination with a dramatic, come-from-behind victory in Game 5 against the Colorado Avalanche that was capped by an overtime winner from Tyler Bozak.
Colorado dominated early with Nathan MacKinnon scoring back-to-back goals in the first period to give the Avalanche a 2-0 lead. Early in the second period, Gabriel Landeskog extended the lead to three with a deflection goal.
The Blues finally scored their first goal of the night with just over five minutes left in the second period when Vladimir Tarasenko blasted a shot into the top corner of the net.
In the third period, the Blues' Robert Thomas scored his first goal of the playoffs to cut the lead to one. Justin Faulk later tied the game with just under five minutes left.
The Avalanche quickly retook the lead when MacKinnon completed a hat trick by racing the entire length of the ice for one of the prettiest goals of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
But MacKinnon's heroic moment was undone when the Blues stunned the Colorado crowd with a game-tying goal from Thomas in the final minute of regulation.
The Blues completed their comeback in overtime when Bozak blasted a shot past the open glove of Avalanche goaltender Darcy Kuemper.
The series will now return to St. Louis for Game 6, which is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.
