PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police were investigating a peculiar crime scene in South Philadelphia Wednesday.
Officers said they found a male in his late teens shot and unresponsive inside what appeared to be a random home. The male was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, investigators said they got a call from a woman who said she walked into her home with another person on South Bailey Terrace near 27th Street and found the teen on her floor.
She claimed she does not know the teen, who was believed to be 16 to 18 years old.
The teen had a bullet wound in his chest. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead shortly afterward.
"There's still a lot of unanswered questions with respect to this homicide,” said Police Inspector D.F. Pace.
"Based on officers on scene, it did not appear that he had been shot very long before the officers discovered him."
Investigators also said there was no blood or ballistic evidence on scene.
"It's rare to see a situation where you have a gunshot victim with an absence of any blood on scene or any ballistic evidence,” Pace admitted.
Pace said police were talking to the woman who called them, and the other person with her, to see if there are any connections.
However, Pace said preliminary investigations led to no such links.
