A Wisconsin man has died after the boat he was on in Lake Erie capsized near Port Clinton, the Lucas County coroner said Wednesday.
James Vanden Elzen, 60, of Hilbert, Wis., was rescued from the water within five minutes, taken to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton and transferred to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where he died at 7:59 p.m. Tuesday, said Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett, the coroner.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The circumstances involved are unknown. The Coast Guard was on scene. A representative was not available late Wednesday.
