Local school districts say they’re taking students’ safety seriously after the tragic shooting at a Texas elementary school Tuesday.
Martinsville Superintendent Zebedee Talley said all of the city's schools have resource officers and cameras, as well as mental health counseling available for students who may need it.
He said the best thing parents can do is talk to their children and school leaders.
“I say, to any parent, continue to communicate with your administration, wherever your children are. And if you see anything, if you see something that's gonna be a problem, communicate, you know, talk to your children,” Talley said.
Talley said he's open to looking at new options to implement safety precautions, including putting metal detectors in Martinsville schools.
He said Martinsville school leaders have never felt a need for them before.
Now, he says schools everywhere may start to consider it.
