The B1G has had discussions centered around removing divisions for determining the participants for the conference championship game. According to Tom Allen, he believes the momentum is moving toward that decision.

Allen said one of the considerations in his mind is “equitable schedules” across the conference. He also expects the B1G to keep a 9-game conference schedule. Allen is also favorable to two permanent opponents per team while rotating the rest so that every 4-year player visits every campus in the B1G at least once.

The NCAA recently relaxed its requirements for conference championship games and now allows conferences to determine participants without the use of divisions during the regular season. The Pac-12 was the first Power 5 conference to eliminate divisions and will play without divisions during the 2022 season.
