Cox places seventh in shot put at state for Wauneta-Palisade

Wauneta-Palisade’s Peyton Cox snuck into Friday and Saturday’s Class D State Championships as an additional qualifier.
One of four from the D7 district to qualify in shot put, Cox made the most of her trip. Seeded 14th, she made finals and placed seventh overall.
Cox steadily increased her distance throughout the second flight, moving from 33’2.5 inches, to 35’8.25” then 36’1.25” on her final perlim throw.
She then had to wait through the final eight throwers to see if she’d make finals as one of nine throwers.
Though her distance didn’t increase over her last three throws, Cox still reached the medal stand.
WP senior Grant Walker qualified in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
