Wildcats compete at State

Boys track

   Maquoketa Valley medaled in five events, totaling 20 points to finish 12th as a team, in the State Class 1A Boys Track and Field Meet May 19-21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

   The Wildcats picked up five of those points when Brock Trenkamp placed fourth in the discus event on Friday, throwing 150-foot-11. Trenkamp also made the finals and earned an eighth-place medal in the shot put on Thursday, at 48-11.5.

   MV had a pair of fifth place finishes, from Cy Huber in the 400, 50.95; and from the 4x800 relay of Michael Schaul, Matthew Schaul, Nolan Ries and Cy Huber, in 8:27.40.

   Placing eighth on Saturday was the sprint medley team of Preston Roling, Lance McShane, Michael Schaul and Huber, in 1:36.97, earning the Wildcats’ final state meet point. Michael Schaul was 12th in the 400.

 

Girls track

   Maquoketa Valley scored seven points, finishing in a tie for 37th overall, at the State Class 1A Girls Track and Field Meet May 19-21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

   Erin Knipper earned five points with a fourth place finish in Thursday’s shot put competition, throwing 38-foot-2.25.

   “Erin had a great outing,” Maquoketa Valley coach Creig Dunlap said. “We are excited to get her back for one more year.”

   The Wildcats picked up two more points in the final event of the meet on Saturday, placing seventh in the 4x400 in 4:13.26 with the team of Saige Hunt, Kylie Chesnut, McKenna Thompson and Amaya Hunt.

   “It was fantastic to see them put things together,” Dunlap said. “I had the feeling they could do it, but it took most of the season to get things just right.”

   Amaya Hunt was also ninth in the 400, in 1:00.62. The 4x100 team of Amaya Hunt, Leah Ries, Thompson and Lily Huber was 16th in 52.34.
