Saints QB Jameis Winston is working in drills at OTAs, 6 months after major knee injury

The saying goes, a picture is worth 1,000 words, and that's exactly what we got Wednesday from the New Orleans Saints.

A picture, several in fact, of Jameis Winston in uniform and working out at OTAs alongside fellow QBs Andy Dalton and Ian Book.

It's a relevant and positive sign for obvious reasons. Winston is only six months removed from a major knee injury suffered in a Week 8 victory over the Tampa Bay Bucs last season. He was brought back and said to be on track with his rehab, and there's no better sign of that being the case than to be working during the optional OTA sessions.

We don't know exactly how much work Winston got throughout the first two days of sessions, but the images show him lining up, doing handoffs and throwing a pass. It's likely he'll still be limited in some capacity, but the optimism is more than fair considering what he's coming back from.

A handful of other key players were also shown, none more notable than Tyrann Mathieu who had donned the No. 32 jersey as he's done throughout his NFL career. But the players not shown could also be seen as notable. None of Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry or Wil Lutz appeared in the workout photos.

For reference, OTAs are not mandatory, and their absence from the Wednesday images doesn't necessarily mean they aren't in attendance. OTA practice is open to the media on Thursday, at which point there will be more information on who is and who isn't out in Metairie this week.
