Popular Band Releases a New Song About Leaving Missoula

I've been a huge fan of The Interrupters for a long time now - the band really became more widely recognized in 2018 after "She's Kerosene" became a hit, but I've been following them for a few years before that.

I first saw The Interrupters opening for Less Than Jake in Albany, NY back in 2014. I didn't know who they were at the time - but their live set was so incredible that I went home and bought their first album, which had just been released.

Four years and two more albums later, and the band had cemented themselves as one of my favorites on the scene today. And when I moved to Missoula, I discovered something that I didn't know about the area - the band's lead singer, Aimee Interrupter (aka Aimee Allen), was born and raised right here in Missoula, Montana.

The Interrupters' New Song is About Leaving Missoula

Aimee got her start in Montana but eventually left at age 18 to pursue a music career in Los Angeles. A few years back, she reflected on her time in Montana, saying she had a "rough upbringing," and that she lived in foster homes, moving from school to school.

Her relationship with Montana has been brought up in The Interrupters' lyrics before, such as in the song "By My Side," which describes being "outcasts in a small town in Big Sky Country."

The Interrupters have a new album coming out in August, and their plan is to release a new song from it every month until its release - and the latest song to drop, "Anything Was Better," is explicitly about Aimee Allen leaving her situation in Missoula for a more positive life elsewhere.

Missoula isn't mentioned by name, though the song does reference Queen Street, which runs from W Sussex Ave to Pattee Creek Dr, as well as Whitaker Park, located on the corner of Whitaker Dr and 39th Street. Both of these spots are also referenced in "By My Side."

I'm a big fan of the song, and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album - and who knows, maybe we'll hear this one live when The Interrupters stop by the Kettlehouse Amphitheater in September for their co-headlining show with Flogging Molly.
