Driver killed in collision with tree in Colleton County; passenger transported

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) —
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that took place Wednesday afternoon on I-95 in Colleton County.

Troopers say the driver of a 2011 Acura SUV was headed northbound on I-95.

Near mile marker 55, just after 12:30 p.m., the SUV ran off of the roadway to the left and struck a tree.
The driver was transported to a local hospital and later died from their injuries.
One passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the collision and was also transported to an area hospital. The passenger's current condition is unknown.
SCHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
ABC News 4 has reached out to the Colleton County Coroner's Office for the identity of the driver.
