COVID cases, deaths on the increase in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, PA – State Department of Health figures released on Wednesday show an increasing number of COVID 19 cases and COVID-related deaths.

The department’s weekly update shows 29,664 new cases over the previous seven days, an increase of nearly 2,000 from the previous week. Deaths were also up, 249 recorded in the last week, an increase of 84 over the previous week. The death toll in Clinton County remained unchanged at 127.

Cases have been on the increase locally all month: On May 1 Clinton County listed 9.085 cases; on Wednesday the total is 9,325, an increase of 240. Centre County increased by 3,064 cases, from 33,666 on the first of the month to 36,730 as of Wednesday. Lycoming County went from 28,653 on May 1 to 29,444 on Wednesday, a hike of 791. Statewide cases were up 6 percent, hospitalizations up 8 percent over the previous seven days.
