South captures senior games cup

It was an abbreviated year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, but the Carbon County Senior Games came in with the same flair it always had.

Approximately 180 seniors ages 60 and older gathered for the six days of competition that marked the games’ return.

When the games began, the question was, who will capture the commissioners’ cup - the South, consisting of Lehighton and Palmerton; or the North, made up of Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley and Weatherly.

On Tuesday, the final day of competition, after all was said and done, it was the South, who came out victorious.

The final combined scores were South Carbon County, 772; while the North Carbon County seniors garnered a total of 465.

Last week, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said the 2023 games would return in full, with a start date of May 3.
