SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man was charged Wednesday with stabbing another man nine times, killing him, outside a Salt Lake concert venue earlier this month.
Kevin Tommy Neal, 36, is charged in 3rd District Court with murder, a first-degree felony, and obstructing justice, a second-degree felony.
On May 14, Salt Lake police were called to the parking lot of Arby's, 1650 S. State, about 9:25 p.m. where Trevor Francis Bellaccomo, 34, was found bleeding from his neck and was unresponsive.
"It was later determined that Bellaccomo was stabbed nine times," according to charging documents.
Bellaccomo was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives determined the attack happened just north of the fast-food restaurant at Resolute Tattoo, 1626 S. State, where a "large pool" of blood was found just outside the business, according to the charges. The back parking lot of the business was being used as an outdoor concert venue that evening for a punk rock show. A witness told police that Neal is the promoter for the venue and coordinates the bands that play there.
Investigators found surveillance video that showed Bellaccomo walking toward the venue and being attacked just as he approached the alley that led to the back parking lot. He and Neal "fought for some time on the ground" before Bellaccomo — who was now bleeding heavily — got up and ran to the Arby's parking lot, the charges state.
A witness later told police that as he was walking out of the alley, he spotted Neal who also had blood on him and Neal stated, "I just stabbed somebody. I gotta get out of here," according to a police booking affidavit. A second witness told police that Neal ran around the corner of the venue and again said he had "just stabbed someone."
Later, Neal was seen back at the venue but he did not have blood on him and was now wearing a hoodie that was zipped up, the charges state.
Clothing items that had blood on them, including a T-shirt, were later recovered by police in a "burn barrel" in the courtyard of the tattoo parlor, according to officers.
Salt Lake police initially said the incident did not appear to be random. As of Wednesday, however, a motive has not been released. His obituary claims his death "was a cumulation of cyberbullying and harassment from within the SLC punk rock community."
Bellaccomo was a well-known animal rights activist in Utah and participated in animal rights protests around the world. According to his obituary, he was born in Orem, was a drummer who played with several local punk bands and got married just last month.
"Trev always stood out in the crowd with his unique colored hair styles, tattoos and self-designed clothes. He had a successful screen- printing business, making band merchandise, patches, punk shirts and customized studded jackets that sold throughout Europe and Asia," the obituary says. "His clothing and creations were worn by the cast in the cult movie 'Punk's Dead, SLC Punk 2.' After the movie, Machine Gun Kelly donated the studded jacket Trevor made to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."
