Former Vincennes Police Chief, wife arrested

KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Former Vincennes Police Chief Dustin Luking and his wife Bethany J. Shelton Luking were arrested Wednesday morning on several criminal charges.

According to a release from Indiana State Police, Dustin Luking was arrested on charges stemming from a criminal investigation after money was discovered missing from the Vincennes Police Department.

This investigation began in July 2019, and Luking resigned from VPD in October 2019.

According to the release, ISP Detective Sergeant Greg Ashby found over $35,000 had been taken from the evidence vault and Luking allegedly used the funds for personal use.

Additionally, a Indiana State Board of Accounts audit revealed several discrepancies involving Luking, including the personal use of over $14,000 between 2013-2016.

Former Vincennes Police Chief Dustin Luking was arrested Wednesday on several charges.

Dustin Luking faces charges of theft, official misconduct and forgery.

In August 2019, ISP investigated a theft of prescription medication at the Bettye J. McCormick Senior Center in Vincennes. Bethany Luking was employed there. This investigation by the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office led to an arrest warrant for her issued Wednesday.

Bethany Luking was arrested Wednesday morning on a felony charge.

Bethany Luking faces a charge of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit.

Both Dustin Luking and Bethany Luking were arrested Wednesday morning at separate locations in Lawrenceville, IL, where the couple lives. They are both currently being held in the Lawrence County Jail awaiting extradition.
