MAYS LANDING – A suspect has been charged for the shooting and murder of 30-year-old Jazmen Martin-Richardson, of Pleasantville.

Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary S. Shill said Lamar Pitts of Atlantic City was arrested at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office where he was processed and charged with weapon offenses and possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated manslaughter and other related charges.

“Pitts was also charged with additional weapons offenses for an incident in Pleasantville that occurred a week prior to the homicide. Pitts was detained and is lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility,” Shill said.

“I want to credit the Pleasantville Police Department the ACPO Major Crimes Unit for the swift identification and apprehension of the suspect in this matter. While we cannot always prevent acts of senseless violence, we take all necessary actions to identify, arrest and prosecute individuals who commit heinous crimes to the fullest extent of the law,” said Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary S. Shill.

According to police records, early Monday morning, just after midnight, Pitts shot Martin-Richardson at her residence and she succumbed to her injuries at her home after receiving life-saving attempts by medical personnel. Pitts and Martin-Richardson had a dating relationship and the firearm, determined to be stolen, and used in the shooting was recovered during the course of the investigation.
