Lainey Wilson Says Miranda Lambert Encouraged Her “To Tell It Like It Is” And Be Unapologetically Herself

Lainey Wilson just released a brand new single, “Heart Like A Truck.”

It already sounds like another hit for the Louisiana native, and she stopped by the TODAY show earlier this week to perform it live on daytime TV as part of their Citi Music Series.

And hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager talked to Lainey a little bit about her rise in country music so far and how Nashville is truly a 10-year town.

They also asked her about one of her mentors, Miranda Lambert, and how she’s helped Lainey navigate the treacherous landscape that sometimes comes along with being a women in the music industry.

Lainey said that, more than anything, Miranda has encouraged her to be unapologetically herself:

“Oh my gosh, she has encouraged me, first of all, to tell it like it is. I mean, don’t beat around the bush.

And I love women like that, I love people who are unapologetically themselves, and that is Miranda.

And she has paved the way for people like me who also wanna say what I’m thinkin’.”

Lainey has that part down pat, and she’s one of the most authentic and endearing artists in the genre at the moment.

Here’s that portion of the interview:

Lainey released her fantastic third studio album, Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’, in 2021, and just scored her second #1 hit with Cole Swindell on “Never Say Never.”

Her first #1 was with her breakout hit “Things A Man Oughta Know,” and it sounds to me like this new tune could easily be her third. You can check out her entire live performance here.
