It's no secret that fans of the DC Extended Universe are hell-bent on seeing Amber Heard get fired from the Aquaman franchise and the movement has been going on for years now. For a time, it seemed like Warner Bros. and DC Films didn't want to meddle with Amber's legal issues with her former spouse Johnny Depp. However, in a shocking new development, the ever-so-controversial star nearly got removed from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

As per Variety, DC Films president Walter Hamada confirmed that initial plans called for the Mera actress to be recast as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was being developed. But according to the equally controversial executive, the controversies surrounding Amber's personal life had nothing to do with the said plans.

Hamada said that there were concerns over Heard and lead star Jason Momoa's chemistry on-screen. He said: "[Momoa and Heard] didn’t have a lot of chemistry together. Editorially they were able to make that relationship work in the first movie, but there was a concern that it took a lot of effort to get there.". It's worth noting that Momoa and director James Wan reportedly fought hard to keep the actress in the sequel.

Rumor has it that Amber's involvement in Aquaman 2 was reduced and even the actress herself revealed details about her alleged shortened role in the film during the trial.

Now, if her claims are in fact true, it would be safe to assume that this time around, WB and DC Film's decision was heavily influenced by all of the allegations Amber is facing.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's theatrical release has been rescheduled to March 17, 2023.
