Takumi Minamino Admits He Is Thinking About Leaving Liverpool

Following a lack of game time for Liverpool, the 27-year-old says he will consider his future at Liverpool after the Champions League final.

Takumi Minamino will consider his Liverpool future after Saturday night’s Champions League final in Paris.

Jurgen Klopp’s men take on Real Madrid as they look to secure their 14th European trophy and this game could be Minamino’s last appearance in a red shirt.

The Japanese international signed for the 19-time league champions from RB Salzburg in January 2020, but has been largely limited to a sporadic squad rotation role during his two and a half year stint at Merseyside.

After making just 19 Premier League appearances in his first 12 months, Klopp shipped him to Southampton in January 2021 for a six month loan spell, where he managed 2 goals in 10 matches.

This loan spell failed to spark a more involved role for the 27-year-old this season, and after making just 11 league appearances during this campaign, he is seriously contemplating a move away from Anfield.

“I have Japan matches too (in June) and there will be no time to rest up, but I’ll think about my future after the Champions League final,” he told Kyodo News.

“First I’m concentrating on the match.”

Klopp was initially impressed by Minamino when he scored at Anfield for Salzburg in a 4-3 Liverpool win back in October 2019. Just three months later, the German manager activated the winger’s release clause of £7.25 million to bring him to the North West.

Minamino has scored 10 goals this season in 24 appearances, with 7 of them coming in cup competitions.
