Jensen Ackles has addressed the long-running rumour that he auditioned for the role of Captain America before it was eventually given to Chris Evans.
The Supernatural star revealed that despite the rumblings on the internet from Marvel fans, he never actually stepped in front of the camera to test for the role.
"Did I audition for Captain America? No, I did not," Ackles told Entertainment Weekly.

"I don't necessarily know, was that an auditioning kind of a thing? I feel like they just met with people on that."
He went on to reveal that his decision not to audition wasn't born out of a desire to not take on the iconic role. Instead, it was his busy Supernatural schedule that hindered any chances he may have had.
"I was not available, anyway. So, I don't think they were going to work around my schedule. Doesn't seem like a kind of property that would do that," he continued.
"I would've loved to have been in the mix on that because Chris [Evans] and I used to go against each other for quite a bit on a lot of different things back in the day. But, unfortunately, I didn't get to fight him on that one."
Meanwhile, the former CW star has joined the Amazon Prime Video series The Boys as Soldier Boy, an antagonist in the new season.
Ackles is among a handful of newcomers to the series who include Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess, Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic, Sean Patrick Flanery as Gunpowder and Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk.

Opening up about his character, the actor said: "It's Captain America on his ass. It's as if Captain America gave up super-heroism and was just your drunk and inappropriate uncle."
He also recently revealed that while filming the show he refused to film one scene in particular.
The Boys season 3 begins on Amazon Prime on June 3
