Bears! Tigers! Zebras! Wait, Zebras? There will be so much to see when the Irvine Park Zoo in Chippewa Falls reopens Memorial Day weekend. Zoo visitors will receive a fresh education on the new animals making their debut to the public this summer.

The new animals include two owl monkeys, three wallabies, two binturongs (also known as bearcats), and five zebras! Visitors will see the zebras living on the grounds behind the zoo where antelope once roamed.

John Jimenez, the city’s director of parks, recreation, and forestry, said each new animal is getting used to its new habitat and exhibit. He reminded zoo patrons to be mindful of not harassing the animals, particularly the new additions.

The petting zoo will also open Memorial Day weekend, along with Olson’s Ice Cream and a new historical installation at the Welcome Center developed by UW-Eau Claire history students. And don’t forget to visit the long-time residents as well, including tigers, bears, and bison.

“Keeper Talks” will also begin rolling out this summer. The free, 10- to 15-minute talks will be every Tuesday and Thursday at both 11am and 2pm. Zookeepers will present information and fun facts about one of the animals.
