Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Juuso Riikola is leaving the National Hockey League this summer and is signing with IK Oskarshamn of the Swedish Hockey League for the 2022-23 season.

"My four years in North America was a good time of life but I felt it was time for change and the next chapter of my career. I've heard good things about the team and the city. I think my style of play will work in the team." Riikola said.

Riikola, a native of Joensuu (Finland), came over to North America in 2018 after signing with the Penguins in May of that year following six years in Liiga.

In parts of four seasons with the Penguins, the 28-year-old appeared in 80 career games where he put up thirteen points (three goals, ten assists), eighteen penalty minutes, and was a plus-eight.

He went on to say, "I see myself as a puck-moving defender who likes to shoot from blue. I would say that I am quite all-round and like to play both powerplay and PK. It will be fun to start the season and play in a city and a community that breathes hockey. I want to say hello to all the Oskarshamn supporters that we will see each other soon and have a good summer!"
