For the second week in a row, Gov. Kate Brown has announced she is accepting applications for a new judge in Lane County Circuit Court, due to the planned retirement of Judge Lauren Holland on June 30.

The Monday announcement comes several days after Brown's office began an appointment process for the vacancy of Lane County Judge Charles Carlson, who also plans to leave his position June 30.

Applicants who apply for Carlson's position also will be considered for the vacancy created by Judge Holland’s retirement, Brown's office said in a news release, so the same applicant pool will be considered for the two vacancies.

Interested candidates should address completed application forms to Dustin Buehler, General Counsel, Office of the Governor, and email them to Shevaun Gutridge at  shevaun.gutridge@oregon.gov. Forms must be received by 5 p.m. June 3.

Brown fills judicial vacancies based on merit and encourages applications from lawyers with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, the release states.

Oregon Revised Statues 3.041 and 3.050 require that at the time of appointment to the court, the candidate must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Oregon and a member of the Oregon State Bar. Senate Bill 977 amends ORS 3.041 and requires that these vacancies must be filled by persons who are residents of, or have principal offices in, the judicial districts to which they are appointed or adjacent judicial districts.

For questions about the appointment process, contact Shevaun Gutridge at 503-378-6246 or shevaun.gutridge@oregon.gov. The judicial interest form is available online.
